This is why there will be no golf for a while

These images were too pretty not to share, even if it means no golf for a while. I called the pro shop yesterday and asked if I could go out and play on ice skates. Thaty’s about what it would take to get out there now! :(

Not This Week :(

We got about 2 inches of snow yesterday, and probably a half inch or more of ice today…so it’s going to be a while before we can get back on the course. The areas that stay mostly shaded, even without leaves on the trees, won’t defrost for a while…and they’re suspecting another storm next week.

This definitely does not bode well for our getting out to play. We were hoping the temps would warm up by the end of the week again so we could sneak a round in, but that’s just not going to happen…unfortunately! 36_1_4

So it may be a while before I have anything to write about…

Frozen Tundra…

Temps soared to neat 60 today. It was a glorious day to be out on the course and out of the house. We’ve been cooped up inside for almost 3 weeks so cabin fever was really starting to set in. When the weathermen all agreed that today would be warm, we booked a tee time. It was glorious!

There was, however, one problem. The ground was frozen so we werent able to put the tees in the ground. We all had to adapt by hitting the ball a whole lot higher than we normally have to. The tees went in to about 1/4 inch, if we were lucky. There was only one hole where the ground was warm enough for us to inset the tees properly.

All of the water on the course was ice-covered. Of course, I forgot my camera. Some of those shots would have been pretty.

We weren’t going to keep score, but we did. Hard not to because you want to know how well (or poorly) you did. I broke 100 for the first time this year :) I really didn’t play all that well, but I had enough pars and bogeys to keep me in contention.

My back actually didn’t feel too bad. Maybe it was because of the warmer weather, but I wasn’t as stiff as I’ve been so I was able to connect fairly well today. All in all, not too much to complain about, considering its been almost 3 weeks since we played. We all really missed it, too. That’s why I’m so reluctant to have that surgery…but that’s on hold for now, so I’ll deal with what I have until it’s right for me.

The only sure way to find a drive sliced deep into the woods is to hit a provisional ball 260 yards down the middle.

It’s Not Gonna Be A Good Golf Month!! :(

It’s been too darn cold to do anything but stay inside and try to keep warm! Two weeks now it’s been brutally cold and next Monday doesn’t look promising either. That’s the only bad thing about living up north…winter play is a crap shoot!

We do have the possibility of squeezing in a round on Friday…it’s supposed to get up to about 49…so if we can play before the possibility of rain in the afternoon….maybe.

I’ll probably hold off on back surgery until Fall. It’s getting too late and close to the season for me to get it done so I could play by summer. I still have too much military red tape to try to cut through…so I’ll look to get another shot at the end of March that will hopefully last me all season, then let them fix this once and for all come fall. That will give me the entire winter to recuperate.

3 Balls, 3 Tees, 5 Bunkers

Yup…I lost 3 balls, broke 3 tees and managed not to avoid 5 bunkers. Got plenty of practice getting out of them, though.

It was supposed to be near 50 today…but no one told the weather about that plan. It actually, tempurature wise, is in the high 40s but the wind was biting. Towards the end of the round, it was really getting chilly.

Not sure it was worth the loss of 3 balls…actually I found 1 but still….it was a nasty, ugly day. Oh hell, sure it was worth it….

I did have several good shots, but I was chunking all over the place…and tearing up huge clods of turf in the process.

But…I was playing golf in January, I was with friends, it wasn’t raining or snowing….so all is right in my world… that is, until I see the neurosurgeon Wednesday about my back. Then we’ll see what will happen to my golf game :(

Golf is like marriage: If you take yourself too seriously it won’t work , and both are expensive.
